raising pH

Morning Everyone,

what is the best way to raise the pH to 8.3? I'm gonna use Seachem Buffer. Should I dose or add it during my weekly water change?

20L
25# lr
1-2in ls
1 false perc
1 firefish
1 black&gold chromis (according to LFS)
2 red legged hermits
6 turbo snails
sooner or later i will be adding coral

all the params are fine, except for my pH (8.0)

TIA
arbel

Johnny,

thanks for the link, it was very informative...

the one think that bugs me though, do you think it's wise to add a buffer when adding the new SW? I'm just worried that I will REALLY stress out the aquarium during the water change.

inputs anyone?

Peace!!

What does the newly mixed water test at? It should test at 8.2 with something like an IO mix. I don't think the buffer will raise it past that, but I'm not certain. Also If you mix 8.2 and 8.0 Ph water, what will happen? Will it become all 8.0, or all 8.2, or will it be 8.1? I have no idea of the chemistry of it.

I use Perfect Ph 8.2, and ...well... it's right at 8.2.

By the way, isn't 20L only around 6 gallons? That is one tiny tank! I've thought about trying a nano again recently, but don't quite have the energy for ANOTHER tank!

DOH! 20L means 20 long, doesn't it? Sorry... disregard the nano reference

thanks bb

for accounts, my tanks should be a nano reef ...(although right now it looks like a FOWLR)

I thought about that and I did test the new mix, it was around 8.1..but I test it at night, so I don't know if it's different during the morning.

I know the buffer will stabilize the pH swing, just curious... how did you add the buffer to your tank?

just trying to get some ideas in adding the buffer (as you can tell, it will be my first time)

thanks again

I have sprinkled it in front of a powerhead and added it to the sump. But now I just buffer top off water before I add it to the tank.
