Rainford Goby, Dwarf Angel choice
As can be seen here: http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=52655, I'm almost done setting up my new 90. It's awesome. But to round it out, I also need to put some awesome animals in there. I'm planning on adding a Rainford's Goby, but I'd like to see if anyone has any good or bad experiences with such.
I'm also planning on adding a dwarf angel, despite their reputation for nipping and periodic belligerence. Any suggestions on something other than the typical Coral Beauty/Flame/Melas/Pygmy Angels that you see in stores? If you have a fantastic angel, do please tell.
Of course, I'm poor, so I might just get whatever's cheapest. But I can dream, right?

I LOVE my coral beauty!
he actually is a VERY good mediator in the tank.
Hard to explain, but I try to here:
http://mysite.verizon.net/s0da/beauty.html
But from what I understand, with most pygmies, you got a 50/50 chance of getting a good vs bad disposition.
but I've been lucky! My beauty, on some occasions, has been my eyes and hands inside the tank.

i was reading that rainford gobies need a bit of filamentous green or red algae in order not to starve (ron shimeks new book about invertibrates).
i have a coral beauty in my mom in laws tank and it really is truly beautiful. i was not such a fan of these before, i thought they were overrated but theyre really nice. also not everyone has an eibli angel and they have very beautiful markings. i used to have one. it picked on the previous owners corals so it ended up in my old fish only tank. gorgeous yellow around the eyes and bright blue trim on the tail.

Yeah, after the research I did AFTER I made that post, I realized that a Rainford's probably isn't such a great idea - apparently they don't fare too well in captivity, on the whole. After seeing Skeety's CB, I'm going to reconsider excluding them. I like the Eibli too. Or maybe a Rusty?
I guess it just depends on the luck of finding a standout specimen of whatever species, and hopefully knowing something about it before I buy.

Come on. That's just WAY too good an idea. Except, having just typed that, I realize that I'd probably buy more fishes that way. I've got to annoy the heck out of the staff at all these places by coming in and peering and pacing and thinking and then never buying anything.
Want to say more (publicly) about your assessor experiences?

oh ok but i am shy.
i have a yellow assessor and a blue assessor in my tank. the yellow seems more timid than the blue but it might be cuz he was introduced second. the yellow is pretty but he has kind of a dingy yellow color next to my canary wrasse. the assessors swim in and out of rocks and under ledges even upside down and sideways (as if they were stuck on a fishline by a fisherman). very cute. also if you remove rocks from your tank they might be hiding in a hole so make sure you know where yours is or put your rock in water so they dont 'drown.' if you want to see them cut and paste the address in my sig line.

So I said to myself: No angels unless they're real pretty like Salt Creepette's. And no impulse buys. So I went to the LFS on their 20% off night (tonight) and looked at their angels (Fisheri & Eibli sold but still written on the glass, a few Kolars, a few Potter's', flames, etc.), and found a gorgeous CB hiding in the sump (I know he's in decent health because he's been going strong in that very sump for a few weeks). I didn't realize he was quite so pretty until we pulled him out though, so when we did and I saw him and fell in like, well, I had to pay out that 80% of normal price to get him.
I'm at work, on the way back home, and perhaps I'll grace everyone with a photo some time soon. Bonus!
Scott
P.S.: Is $16 for a Scopas Tang a good price for a good fish? (Feel free to address both aspects.)

YEAH!!!!
congrats!
get us some pics when you can!
(with the CB, you'll want to get as many pics NOW, as you can...cause once he gets comfy, you'll never be able to get a good pic, as it will CONSTANTLY be moving!)

It's apparently already comfy.
You'll notice, in the third photo, the newly self-proclaimed owner of the tank giving the CB a little inspection run. She's calmed down a little, as of this morning. But the CB still won't stay still. But at least it's eating!

BFF?
Actually, skeety, mine was behaving this morning just like you describe yours as behaving. He really likes company, apparently.

Congrats on the purchase!! Have had mine now for about a year and he is beautiful, and as skeety said i am yet to get a good pic of him. He is actually in the photo in my avatar, you just cant see him as he blends into the dark park of the rock.
Nice fish.
