Rabbitfish Passed
Last night I noticed my rabbitfish was looking a little rough after he wouldn't come to eat. When I got home he was being eaten by my LTA. The LTA is just a little larger than the rabbitfish was. Water change was scheduled for tonight anyway. I usually only do 20 gallons, but I went ahead and doubled that since I had a dead fish. While I got the water upstairs the LTA spit the rabbitfish out. Yuck!

That stinks. Do you think the anemone capitalized on a meal of opportunity (as in, an unhealthy, lethargic fish found its way in front of it), or something else? Are the other fish at risk?

I think he just wasn't finding enough to eat, unfortunately. He ate nori everynight and grazed on algae around the tank. He just kept getting thinner the last week or so. Other than that he was/looked healthy.

Did you have him for a while? I wonder if it was an internal parasite. My foxface eats about once or twice a day, and he's always been fine. I'm sorry yours didnt make it .

I think I bought him about 6 months ago. So not too long ago. All my other fish are fat and happy.

sounds like an internal parasite, i am very unlucky with this also. i have started to feed metronidazole to the tank on a regular basis to get rid of the parasites. i pretty much do it once a month for a couple of days.

I may have to consider this just to make sure the other are OK. They are all very fat now and have been.

it is a medicine made by Seachem. it comes in a powder in a tube. most LFS will carry it.
i use frozen foods, so i put a couple of scoops of metronidazole in a shot glass and put my food cube in there and mix it all up. i then feed it to the tank. have not had a problem with anything and i have been dosing quite a bit lately with the new fish that are in there.
