r.o. di membrane

So, I am getting ready to start my reef tank back up after a year of down time. Got out my r.o. unit and realize I know nothing about it. I have a bag of fresh resin, thought about replacing the membrane, but then I realized how cheap I am. Its a membrane rated for 100 gallons per day. Probably made about 500 gallons with it. I dont even know how to tell if its working......water is clear at both ends . Any help?

get an inline TDS Meter and it will give you an accurate reading...optimal is 0 on the out!

So, should my membrane be alright after a year in storage. I took things apart, everything looks and smells fine....i figured it would be nasty after a year.

Its still moist and is not moldy. What about those shady little filters underneath? The carbon, carbon block and sediment filters?

ya...that was on every forum I know of started a couple of weeks ago.........im surprised it lasted as long as it did.......

I dont know how big your tank is or how much water you go through, but a TDS meter can pay for itself very easily simply by letting you know when you truly need to change your filters, instead of guessing.

Ok I got the thing cleaned up, canisters rinsed out, resin changed, membrane eyeballed, and then I said a little prayer. tomorrow I will hook it up and waste about 10 gallonsand then take some to the lfs and beg for a test.
