R.I.P Snowflake Eel

Found my snowflake dead last night Not sure what happened because he has been active and eating well. My ammonia, nitrite, nitrate all test 0. Salininty 1.025 and ph is 8.2. Corals, foxface, fuzzy dwarf, and the damsel all appear fine. My volitan that was in this tank still isn't eating after being treated in the qt so I am leaving him there. At this point I don't know what is going on. I just don't see how a fish is active and eating then a few hours later dies!

Yesterday was raw shrimp. He also eats frozen krill and occasionally silversides. He really liked the shrimp and krill best. I looked for puncture wounds to see if the foxface had finally had enough of him trying to take his food but didn't see any.

Really sorry about that, Jena. How long did you have him?

We raised "Spotty", our Chainlink, from a little worm-sized critter to a full grown eel. After having him nearly four years, I found him dead of unknown causes. One day he was eating and perfectly healthy and the next day dead. I really liked that eel and he loved to have his tummy rubbed.

I got him in May. He was just 8 inches when I got him and had grown to over a foot in the time I had him. He was a trip and would circle my hand when I was in the tank. He used to freak me out thinking he would bite me but he never did.

I just lost my snowflake last month. Not sure what happened to it either. It ate well a few days before and the clowfish were fine, everything tested ok, so I'm still scratching my head over losing it. Had it 2 or 3 years, my memory's getting bad. It was about 10 inches long when my wife bought it and almost 2 feet long when I lost him. I don't think I'd have another eel unless it was a separate tank specificly set up for one.

Yeah I don't plan on getting another one either. I loved his personality but hated the sand storms he created.

My tank was bare bottom so I never worried about sand storms. He had his favorite rocks to hang out in and moved into the PVC pipe after eating.
