Quick Question About Kalk Stirrers

I just bought the one from Fishbowl Innovations and while quickly reading the instructions, it specifically states not to submerge the base of the stirrer. I was planning to put the stirrer right inside the sump and use it with my auto-topoff. Is this typical of kalk stirrers to not be able to be located in the sump? I've tried to look at other kalk stirrers online, but none of them really say whether they can be submerged in the sump or not.

Does everyone just keep their stirrer outside the sump?

I did a quick search and came up with this stirrer, so I assume yours is pretty close to the same thing.

That stirrer uses a magnet fixed on a motor in the base to spin the top magnet in the actual chamber. Any kalk reactor with that sort of stirring mechanism most likely will not be able to be submerged. A few other reactors use a pump to stir the kalk, those would be able to be submerged.

Normally they are kept outside the sump, unless real estate is an issue.

Yes, I think most stir-type systems are this way. If you want one to go inside a sump, the I would suggest the GEO kalk reactor.

That was the exact stirrer I purchased Wheryat.

Thanks for the feedback guys - I guess I'll just have to decide whether to build a little base and shield for it to sit on inside the sump, or let it be outside.
