Questions

I am starting a new reef tank!

Here is a little information on the tank:

30long, DIY Sump 3mag to run the tank, 5mag to run the sump skimmer, 175 MH 14K Hamilton bulb hood I am making installing 2 Ice Cap Fans on it!, Piping is all going to be PVC, Will have all live stock from my 20L which is only going to be the coral, anemones, and LR.

1st question, This time I want to use sand which is the best?

2nd question, I am getting rid of all fish, I did not plan it out I was going on a buying spree, so this time I am starting new on fish! I was thinking 3 Clown fish and a couple Gobys?

Thanks Flash

Thats alot of fish in a 30g. What kind of skimmer are you going to run?
On the PVC, I had my 55 all hard plumbed with PVC and the noise from pumps was very loud as it transmitted and amplified through the whole system. My 150 is a bit different. I broke up each leg of PVC with flexible PBC to help reduce the noise and vibration spread through the whole tank. I have more pumps more power and its much quieter than the 55 was. HTH

The Skimmer Is an Emperor Aquatics Venturi Protein Skimmer! I have all the plumbing figured out and it should not make hardly any nosie, about the loudest thing will be the Ice cap fans and that is not loud.
U think 3 clown fish and 4 gobys is too much?
I hate to say what I have know in the tank but here I go 2 blue velvet dams, 2 blue green dams, 2 stripe ones, and one other dams. Now that is alot. I told you I went on a buying spree. This time it is going to be well thought out. It has been like this for 1yr now!

2 clowns and 1 goby would be fine in a 30g, go with southdown sand, or pure argonite.

remember clowns are just damsels in funny clothing! as they get bigger they will become territorial.

Southdown is a type of sand. it is the pure white sand. it is getting difficult to find. you used to be able to find it at HD. this sand is not silica, but calcium carbonate based. it looks more like super crushed shells than sand.
