Question about swapping pumps on my skimmer pci70 vs dart

I run a PM XL on my reef and my pci70 just went t!ts up on me. i need to replace the pump so I can go buy one or I do have a sequence dart am not using.

The problem with the dart is two fold one its not pressure rated, but it does move three times the water then the pci 70 and two the bulkhead feeding the pci70 is smaller then the dart intake so if i did swap them the dart would have a reduce intake feed ingthe pump. Any comments?

I take it that the XL you are talking about is the Beckett PM skimmer?

You could always try it, if it doesn't work you could get another 70.

I don't see why not, you might consider increasing the BH size for the intake and just putting a big old ball valve on the outflow. can you think of anything else you could use the extra flow for? just make a tee off the outflow and run something else?

Cant increase the size of the bulkhead to major of a project to shut down my sump. i allready have a gate valve on the skimmer i guess i was worried about the dart being not enough pump.

I am worried about it not being enough too, as you know Becketts really depend on pressure behind them to create those tiny bubbles, if the pressure is not there, the bubbles may get bigger, and the skimmer will act like a venturi skimmer.

Since all the re-plumbing is involved maybe youd be better off to sell the dart and put the money toward a new or used GenX or Iwkia 70?
