Question

Question about coraline algae?

My friend works in a pet store and showed me a chemical that helps build coraline algae. I forgot the name of it but im sure thier our many types out there. Is it recamented to use so or just good lighting and time will build coraline algae. I already have bits and pieces here and there on my rock but if it will improve it why not? Any comment would help, thanks.

he may be looking at a calicum supp. for the tank. coraline does need and use calicum. Over time it will grow..i had no problem with growing it and VERY fast when i was trying to adjust my Ca level. you do not have to try and rush it.. nothing ever does good if rushed..adding a chemical just because.. is not always the best thing to do..pick up a Ca test kit. see where you ae at, and with you are going to keep hard corals ( and soft) then adjust the levels to maintain and good Ca. your coraline should take off too. IMO

Find out what its called and post before buying it
Proper calcium and too some extent magnesium along with lighting that it likes should put your coralline growth where you want it. Be aware that once it starts taking off, it will not only infest the rock but the front glass as well making scraping a part of your maint routine

Vigorous water flow will aid it as much as anything else. I certainly would not dose anything to grow coralline algae.
