Question about closed loop

Just wondering what is the benifits of a close loop. And how u would make 1. Is it better than say powerheads. The reason i ask is cause i am paying off my new 54 corner tank and i want good water flow. It has a overflow on in it. And i an putting my 30 gal hex in there. Any ideas or a good way for this will help before it is set up. I would love to go bigger but i live at home and i have no more room in my room. Cause i already have a 120 in my room. If there is a post about this already please let me know as i dont no to much about computers and cant realy find my way around websites

If you just want better flow, get an Oceanflo or a couple larger power heads. A closed loop needs a larger pump to make it worth while but then your cost to run it goes up a lot. Power heads use very little electricity. But a closed loop is not seen inside the tank. Many things to think about. A CL is best done with at least three drilled holes (all under the water line), one to feed the pump then two to return the water.

I am going with 2 Oceanflo’s in my new 125 to keep my cost of operation way way down. I was going to do a CL until I research it a bit more.

Here is some good reading as well… http://www.wetwebmedia.com/pbretfaqs.htm

Better flow is very much NOT a true statement. More expense to run IS a true statement, as well as a little more heat added with a cls typically. You also really want two inputs if you are doing bulkheads to feed the pump....redundancy is a good thing.

Some people do both...a cls on their spraybars and then SEVERAL tunzes or similar on a controller and that does a pretty awesome job of getting flow everywhere.

Personally, i dont want any powerheads or any pipe visible in my displays so a CLS is the only way to fly.

It kind of depends on hopw willing you are to do some drilling and plumbing, and if you want to pay a little more in operating expenses
