Question about buying a tank

Hello all,

We might be moving soon and would like to transfer out tank into a new aquarium and add a sump. We want to buy an all-glass reef ready aqaurium.

Can someone recommend good manufacturers to buy from? Or those to avoid?

What about sump set ups? We would like a fuge in the sump. Should we build something ourselves?

Right now we have a 45 gallon reef. We'd like to get something slightly larger (50 to 60), but not too big because we still want to be able to use our current light fixture and chiller.

Thanks for your help!

The only larger tanks I have ever had are Oceanic. I've never had even a leak from any of them - - 60-gallon, 90-gallon and now my 135-gallon.

Hope this helps!

What are the dimensions of you current tank? If you have a 48" fixture you could go as large as a 90g without having to buy a new light...depending on what type of lights you are running.

We have a 36 inch metal halide fixture.

The main concern is the chiller, which I believe is only good for 50 to 60 gallons. We won't have air conditioning.

I believe oceanic makes a 58 g cube that is 36" wide. I have seen them at my LFS.

So Oceanic seems to be a good brand. Thanks for the advice!

I also have some questions about moving the tank, but maybe I should just start a new thread.

Just a quick note - we just moved 300 miles with our 2 tanks - emptied all the Live Rock in buckets, dry with no water - all the fish went in buckets with battery-operated pumps you can buy at sporting goods stores. We threw away the old sand bed, and bought new sand. All the corals went in ice chests/coolers without much water and no air, they did remarkably well - we didn't lose a thing!

We made up tons of RO water at the destination place first, so we were ready to fill up the tank and get every thing turned back on.....

We moved the 135-gallon with two people, it was empty - and a 4-wheeler dolly!

Good luck
