Question about a Visa (Not the CC)

Hey all does anyone know the best route to take to obtain a visa to visit Brazil? My sister-in-law is going to meet her boyfriend's family in January, and has gotten some conflicting information. Since we have a consortium of world travelers right here, I thought I might as well poll the audience. So, for all those who've done it or similar, what is the best way to go about it? (She was planning to drive to the consulate in Chicago, but there has to be a better way.) She already has the tickets booked, so time is of the essence.

Any ideas/advice or thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Andrew, since no one has jumped on this one I suggest she call the Consulate and get the info first hand. I dont think its difficult but you gotta cross T's and dot I's

Hey Andrew,

I agree with Doug, call the consulate. You should also call the passport office and then the state department. The passport office will let you know what she will need, besides a passport, to get in and out. Some countries are requiring other forms of ID now that Travel has become a big issue, especially international. The State Department can give you an idea of any pressing concerns they have as far as safety etc. Argentina is in a bit of a mess right now and Brazil's economy isn't that much better. They may have some warnings out or something that you should be aware of.

A lot depends on the length of stay, if it's just a few weeks she shouldn't have any problem. If it's a more extended stay, she might need to file some additional paperwork.

Some paperwork can take time to get through, though a passport can be obtained in 24 hours if you pay a premium for it.
