Jeff,
There's a bit of confusion on the conchs.
Queens (S. gigas) get big. Well you know! They are also rowdy.
There are two conch's billed as "fighting conch".
S. alatus is collected mostly on the west coast (Tampa area), ask Greg to go wading for you.
S. pugilis is mostly farmed and comes from here, Bahamas, and West Indies. This is usually the one sold as "fighting conch". They get almost as big as queens, just not as rambunctious.
Also, hard for some to identify.
Get the fighting conch.
Jerel
PS, my all time favorite is Hawkwing (S. raninus) they look like a miniature queen at 3"

Jerel, Thanks for your input. i value your opinion was wondering on choices only because earlier fighting conchs, picked up by my wife,in Indy, came a "little DOA" found out to be possibly picked and bagged as such. a friend of mine has two of the Queen conchs and have doubled in size in about 2 months. both varieties from Premium Aquatics are tank - raised. they just got the Queens in this week . planned on going down to Indy on Sat. to check the new place out and get a few things(not taking the wife ,,so i won't be getting a LOT of stuff, hehe) just two conchs and a dozen scarlet hermits, need to take her to get more stuff,,,go figure will probably get the fighting conchs tho! Thanks!!
BTW: saw J.Buffett last night up here(ILL.)think he froze a toe or two!LOL.. concert was postponed two weeks due to the NY carnage.Think we were the only two drinking $2 coffee/hot chocolates vs. $8 beer/Margs! good time none the less.(plan to hear second concert there on "RadioMargaritaville. com" on Sat nite.)Thanks again!
Jeff(a conch in a prior life )

Old Age, takes another victum. LOL
This will kill you. We went to a party last Sat. night. (Gloria's) The party started at 6pm, ended at 9:30-10. There was about 50 people there - and not one single person had a drink.
We did listen to Mo-town and dance though.
