Question

Queen Conch

Anyone have any experience with a Queen Conch in a reef? Pros/Cons. I assume they will eventualy grow large enough where you would have to get rid of them unless you had one monster tank.

Larry,

Queens get the largest and are the most rambunctious. Easiest to keep when they are less than 2" overall, larger than that and they're nutritional needs really speed up - making them harder to keep fed. They can grow very large, very fast.

My suggestion, look around for "fighting conch" from ORA instead.

We have 3 Larry..and the largest is approaching 3 inches. These guys end up in the strangest spots...on top of rocks, on top of the magnet, etc. They are wild and crazy conchs. They do a good job scouring the sandbed and a good job bulldozing our clam. We'll probably cut back to just 1 conch after our tank breaks in some more.

Thanks for the insights. I blindly dove in and have one. lfs said they were ok in a reef, but gave the size warning.

Mine is about 1 1/4" long now and covers the sand bed and the rock. Haven't seen it on the glass yet, but it seems to do a bang up job on the algae. It's lost somwhere in the live rock at this moment.
