Quarantine tank questions

I am going to be setting up a quarantine tank to deal with some red bugs (yuck). I’d like to keep it up and running permanently for emergency use and for when I buy new corals so that I don’t infect my main tank anymore. I know, I know… I should have been using one all along. I’ve learned my lesson now. So do I need to keep this tank lit with a lighting cycle or will it be fine to leave lights off until needed (keeping up with waterchanges, filter changes and top offs, of course).

The tank will be a 10g BB with minimal live rock and an AC110 for circulation and filtration. I don’t have lights for it as of yet but will have a 175w MH temporarily hung high above the tank.

It should be mostly fine with the lights off when not housing any corals. Just keep up with the water changes and you should be alright.

sounds great

the only thing I would add is that circulation and filtration isnt enough to keep the water (or rock healthy). Without a skimmer or the water dropping ot a sump providing it, you need aeration as well to prevent the waterfrom going stagnant to some extent and not being suitable to throw new arrivals or keep corals in.

a super tiny venturi hooked into one of your pwoerheads somehow could accomplish that as well as a airstone with just a little bit of air going to it

The AC110 gives me 500gph in a 10g so circulation should be fine. When the tank is not being used, I guess I could drain a little water so that the filter pushes air down into the tank. I don't want to go overboard and end up with salt creep all over the place. I just set it up tonight and even with the water level up to the filter output, some air still gets pushed down. I'm taking out the filter media once I'm done with the red bug treatment completely. It's out now and I'll add it in once the medication kicks in.
