Quarantine filter question

I bought a sponge filter to use for my quarantine tank. I am going to put it in my sump to mature so when I get a fish I will have it ready for QT.
How long does it take for the sponge to gain the proper bacteria it needs before it can be used for QT?

Hi Bob , I think You need about the time it takes to cycle a tank. It will take alttle time to seed.
