Just cut a thin piece of pipe and place rock on it.

It can be. I didnt even use PVC, just a 3/8" diameter fiberglass rod. Click here to see how I did it, and then here's the finished look. Was not difficult at all.

i think you maybe misunderstanding what i am after, i am looking for the pvc rock lifts to place my rocks above my sandbed. But you did give me possibly some ideas on how to stack some rock

Indeed I did. There are a couple of ways to make rock lifts (check out flyguy's method), but just a large diameter PVC pipe does work well. Cut the PVC a little taller than the sand bed is deep, bury it down to the glass, then put the rock on top of it. The little acrylic rock lifts give the benefit of being easier to hide, though at the cost of more complicated to construct.

It is that easy or you can make it harder and more $.Just cut a piece of PVC the height of you sand, stick it into the sandon the cut end and put rock on top!You can use different size pipe to make the ring bigger or smaller to rest the rock on it.

a piece of 4" diameter PVC drain pipe with holes cut in it with a hole saw on a drill.

Individul sections cut with a chop saw at the height that you want your rock suspended above the bottom (BB) or the depth of the sand plus your suspention height aove the sand (SSB or DSB).

An example of DSB application with spraybar placed at the rear and bottom of the rockpilings, angled up so that it still removes detritus from the rock, yet does not move the sand around under the rock pines. This particular app works well to prevent pooling of detritus under the rock piles and suspends the detritus while "washing" the rock from the back and bottom. Note that none of the pipe is glued to allow adjustment of the flow directions to make this work. The use of additional "t"'s in the manifold pipe allows for runs of pipe directly under the rock to blow current up into the rock if needed.

With live rock in place, most of the stands are invisible, and the runs of manifold can be hidden as well with properly placed rock, however, within 3 months, the pvc pipe will be covered with coralline regardless.

Suspending the rock above the sand to prevent collection of detritus and compression of the sand (or to allow open bottomed BB) does not need to be made any more difficult that this to work well and function correctly, however, what ever works for you, so long is there is open space under the rock and adequate current provided, will do the job.
