PVC Algae Scraper
This just occurred to me this afternoon; I posted in the Contest Section as well (but I'm ineligible)
Tired of the uncomfortable scraping with a flimsy old credit card? Don't want to use a razor blade? Don't have $$$ for one of those super-duper Tunze magnets?
Here's a simple, yet effective scraper that you can get a good grip on:
Cut a piece of 1-1/2" white PVC pipe, about 1-1/2~2" long......that's it! You can grip the PVC easily and comfortably with your fingers and scrape away....if it gets dull, sharpen with a file or just cut another piece.
It really works!!!
FOR USE IN GLASS AQUARIUMS ONLY
Why didn't someone ever think of this before?
Dick

Shhhh, Dick! You could have marketed it under the "Amazing Algae Scraper 3000" and made enough to round out Fishgirl's college fund!

So is it safe for acrylic tanks? If it scratches up my tank, can I sue for damages?

Will have to consult TRT Legal Dept re: Lawsuit, wait Dick is the legal dept
Better read all the fine print and have it signed by a notorious republican<G>

Dick that is a hellovan idea. You could even keep your hands dry by putting the scraping piece in a 45* angled slip by slip and adding a handle to length of choice.

Dick has spent too much time in the office again, not enough tinme looking at the tank...
Heh, I have use this same setup for acrylic in my prop tank for years, and use a similar apparatus on a meter long piece of 5cm diameter pvc pipe as well. I use a piece of flat flange to make the scraper part and cut a notch in the end of the pvc pipe for the display. To make the scraper part flat, I use 220 grit paper wrapped around a piece of wood and use this to sharpen scraper and keep the "blade" flat.
