Putting live rock right on live sand???

Just wanted to see what most people do when setting up their tank and using live rock. Do most set the live rock right on the live sand? Use PVC pipeing to lift it off the sand a 1/2 inch? Pro's vs Con's?? I have mine sitting on the sand at the moment, but just wondering what most others do.

i put my rock directly on the bottom pane of the tank. then spread the sand around the rockscape. I know of people putting the rock directly on top of the sand the downfall to this is that the sand sifting animals can burrow under the rocks and causing rockslides. Your best and safest bet would be to use a rocklift then you will have a full pane full of glass for all the burrowers not knocking down corals or your rockwork.

Mine is sitting on the sand, but I do nestle the rock down in the sand to help avoid settling and burrowing critters like DevilBoy pointed out.

Right now I have mine on PVC, but my first opportunity to tear the tank down (i.e. a move) I plan to make some of FlyGuys groovy acrylic rock lifts.

it is an awesome set up.

But if it's too involved for you, you can always just make some simple PVC lifts. That's what I use:
