Purple Up, product opinion

I've heard good things about this product called Purple Up, it's a coralline algae accelerator. It contains Super Sea Calcium and other essential elements to encourage coralline not nuisance algae to grow. I decided to give it a try and replace my Kent marine liquid calcium with this product. I didn't want to raise my levels to high. I also use Kalkwasser on a very slow drip. I keep my levels at about 400ppm.

It might work for a while, but it's the long term affect that might get ya. If you cant test for it dont use it. i would just stick with water changes & a good salt mix. JMO.

But are the calciums different? Do the different cacliums do different things or is calcium...calcium? I've heard that some act more on the LR and this purple up puts a layer on the rock for the coralline to build on. I don't know just looking for some good opinions.

WC's deplete calcium and element levels and what does salt have to do with calcium and coralline?

I had a problem with dripping Kalk in the past and can not figure a good and easy way to do it. This time around with this tank I add ca, alk, ph and my tank is good....only problem is I cant get the coralline to grow on the tank...I too just purchased the purple-up to give it a start then just add the cal to the tank. or find a good way to add kalk.

depends on your evaporation rate..but yes...most just mix the kalk in with their top off water, and let that drip in.

around 1-2 drop per second is good. If your evap rate is more than that...the Kalk will give you pH problem.

But I dose my Kalk with my top off water in my one tank.

here's a cheap/easy/DIY way to make a Kalk drip (total cost? about $10 if that):

(see post #8)

So what do you think the drip rate should be if my evap is at 1 gallon a day?
