Purple Up?!?
Anyone use this stuff?
How does it work?
Is it worth it?
Can it be used to give the corraline process a jump start and then discontinued?
Thanks!

To me its an over priced, over rated calcium. My friend used it and I didn't...dosed sea chem reef complete...and my coraline has grown more than his. We started our tanks about a week apart last year.

I've used Purple-Up a few times in my tank. There is not really a huge difference between using and not using it. Your tank will grow coralline when it matures any way. I wouldn't buy it again.

Ok...Thanks! My tank is about 7.5 months old and I have not grown any of the purple stuff...I just noticed a few little specs last weekend, so I am hoping it is going to start.
I was just wondering if it would kick start the process.

I don't like it at all. There were some people on RC using stroniam to jump start coraline growth with good sucess, JBNY is one name that jumps to mind, this was a thread from back in 2003 though.

Once you start noticing the coraline, it willl start taking off faster than you can imagine. Before long you'll wish it was gone.
The purple up has some other things in it as well. I can't remember what exactly, but if you can't test for it, don't add it.

Your slacking. Your thread count isn't growing as fast as it was.

One of the reasons I don't like it.

Speaking of the purple stuff, how long before it starts popping up all over the place? I have no nusance aglae any more, some macro algae that is beginning to take the place by storm, but no "good" algae. The LR is looking swell with it though?
Does it take weeks, months, years?
