Question

purple tang and chevron tang compatibility?...

you think i could add a small chevron tang (in my 125 with 150lbs of LR) with a small purple tang?...the purple has been in for about 5 months (the tanks only 7 months old)...

i know i shouldnt put in "like bodied" tangs but i think the purple and chevron are kinda different?...

other fish include...

a. ocellaris clown
lawnmower blenny
red head goby
yellow clown goby
green citron goby
flame hawk

i would hate to put this pricey fish in and have him beat up...

thanks

brad

Wink

NOT !

I don't know if I would take the chance if it were me, but hey your flame hawk hasn't killed anything yet so maybe with your luck... who knows. Will a Chevron eat bubble algae ? hahaha !

that little hawk is as calm as a kitten...so far...

i tried a yellow tang last week (same size, big mistake) and the purple ripped him up good...now i know why they call em surgeonfish...took a shot thinking maybe he wasnt that aggressive...

that was with a $30 yellow that i could take back to the LFS...if i get a $100+ chevron i might not be able to take him back!...

You never know till you try....since the chevron isn't a "Zebrasoma", it might work. Put the chevron in at the opposite side of the tank from where the purple tang hangs out, turn off the lights, etc.

Mixing zebrasoma is never a good idea, in my experience. Hope the yellow tang is ok.

he hangs out in the whole tank!...just cruises around in and outa the rockwork...really a great fish...(and only $29!)...

the yellow tang is fine...he was in a 20 gal tank at the LFS with about 5 other yellow tangs...(help, tang police!)...they were beatin each other up pretty good, but he looked the best...so i figured he could hold his own...

the purple was the aggressor right away and the yellow didnt seem to "fight back" at all...lesson learned...he was only in the tank for a few hours, i didnt wanna risk his death or the purple gettin stressed with him in there...so i traded him in for a squarmosa (sp.?) clam...

maybe its too late to add ANY other tang?...just added a couple little gobys and a flame hawk and he hasnt bothered them much at all...

hehe..yeah..they are like that aren't they. I guess ours have always favored one side of the tank over the other....hmmmm. You might also try distracting the purple with some nori. yum yum.

I would recommend against adding another tang. Depending on your corals you could try a small centropyge angel. The tang would likely ignore the angel...unless you got a purple one .
