Question

purchasing soft corals etc...

I just got back from the local fish store, and I questioned the fat little employee that previously lied to me about how long my tank would take to get here, and he told me that I have to buy the rock that the soft coral or mushroom is attached to. My question is: How do I buy mushrooms, and other soft corals. Do I really need to buy the rock they are attached to or does anyone sell them seperate? I plan on having between 40 and 50 pounds of live rock in my tank, so should I buy less live rock and then add the mushrooms and coral rocks later? Or should I just buy 45 pounds of rock and then what?

you do need to buy the rock they are attached to...usually they will be on a pretty small rock so it wont be an issue with having too much rock. if they are on a really big piece you can chisel off the extra if you desire

this time the ft little man did not lie

Also, if they are already attached to a piece of rock they are easier to place in the tank. Trying to get a softie to attach is a PITA, having to use toothpicks or rubberbands or string. They don't glue too well.
