Question

Pumps

hay guys & gals,

still in the process of seting up our 100 aga reef tank. resiliconing the tank, been dry for 4 yrs, MH ballasts are coming in (the one's in the diy MH for $100) and the other ballasts to run the vho's are coming in. want to plan out the plumbing for the tank and was wondering about what type of pumps to use the kind that i don't have to mortage the house on- the MAG pumps- (will be using the mag 9.5 ffor the skimmer and maybe the mag 5 for the return)

can anyone comment on these, any body using them(heh heh)? i've read on some other bbb that some guys were haveing problems and others weren't Murphy's law? or just not doing the maintance on them like they should???

will have a refugium sectioned off with a siphon coming in, the beckett skimmer that i'm working on, and a pump to return it all back to the tank. have been dooing a lot of reading and asking questions the reef part of this hobby is not condusive on a budget. fresh water is cake thanks for any help

Wanareef,
I second chewie's comments, I run two mag 7's one for my sump return, and one for my skimmer. I also run a 9.5 mag for circulating my water during water changes. They all work great and I have not had any problems...

I have several Mags and they are great with the exception of the 7. That seems to be the only one that I hear people having trouble with. Mine has trouble with re-starts.

I have a mag 1800, 700, and 500. You need to take them apart and clean them from time to time-inspect/replace impellers. As long as you do that you should be ok.

I love mine. I doubt I would use anything else.
