pump question

I have a ocean runner 6500 and was wondering if i could use it inside my tank to add some flow to it. I was thinking of putting it on top of the sand in a corner of my tank and then stack some light rocks on it so that if it breaks i can move it later, anyway once ive done that i was planning on having a 1/2 inch piece of pvc with 3 or 4 threaded three ways on it and have loc lines extending from the threads sort of like a closed loop, but the pump is inside the tank sitting on the sand with some small rocks on it to hide it. Would this work? anydownsides to doing it this way?

It would work fine...imm not familiar with that pump but im assuming its like any other submersible with an inlet and an outlet...........ive actually done it with a mag 12 in a big frag tank before but it was barebottom. The only thing that you need to account for is critters and sand getting in the pump. You will want to make sure the inlet to that pump is at at LEAST a couple inches if not more above the sand, and that the inlet is covered somehow so snails and whatever cant get in there. You could use some reducing fittings from a much bigger endcap on the inlet side and drill a bunch of holes in it so that the flow will still get in but snails and critters of any size cant.
