protein skimmer for 10g reef

Hi all,

I am currently managing my nutrient uptake with water changes, but would really like to reduce the amount of changes I have to do throughout the month. So, I'm thinking about getting a protein skimmer and filling my HOB (walmart) filter with chaeto instead of the filters it comes with.

How well would this setup work to substitute constant weekly water changes? what is the best way to remove nitrate buildup aside from water changes?

WC is the cheapest way to reduce nitrates.

+1

I gave up on the small skimmers...I don't run one on any of my 24g tanks (I have 3)...only on the big tank.
