Power Sweep Power Head?
Has anyone used this powerhead?
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...004+22788+2032
It is supposed to create a wave like movement in the water.
Do you guys think it'll be too much if i got the 270GPH model powerhead if I have small tank like the 65g? How many GPH should I be aiming for total? I already have the Rio 14HF Hyperflow power head pushing out 840GPH and that's all I have for now. Thanks all for your help!

Those things are the biggest pieces of crap ever invented to move water. I could probably dig a couple up from some old boxes if i havent tossed them already and send them to you for the cost of shipping.
You should be shooting for 15-20x turnover on the low end for any type of reef tank. So 1200 or so in your case. It would behoove you to look into a couple of koralias IMO. For the money they do a pretty good job and are easily adjustable as far as direction.

I owned one at one point too,.. and agree, fly pretty much covered it.
I would also suggest looking into Seio's if the Korallia's don't fit your needs.

Hey i think i'll buy a couple of Korallia's and put one of these guys in there to make like a wave like motion in the tank. What do you think.. http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem-...ct-3Q1111.html

I was considering a few koralias, but went with Tunze 6025 for under $55 and the can eaisly be modded up to 1200+ GPH Tunze has been around and has an excellent rep. Hydor Koralias have already had a major recall on the 3's and 2's I beleive. Not that the koralias are bad I just wanted somthing with a solid rep for quality and longevity.

I went to the LFS and this guy told me maxi-jets are good for wave making systems because they can tolerate the on and off motion better then other power heads ---- this might be true lol probably not. Maybe I'll get something like this and hook a couple powerheads to it http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_Aquari...ural_wave.html but then what powerheads are realiable enough to last, because they'll be going on and off all day and night.
What it all comes down to is i'm looking for a realiable wave making system. Thanks all!

There is a mod avaliable for the MJ's it's like $25 and it gets them up to 1200 gph. and YES the LFS was right that are controlable. The modded MJ's are a bit bulky ans unsightly. I did see another "cleaner" looking mod the other day.

I actually use two of these in my tank. I have a 65G as well and provided you keep them clean (and by proxy accessible) they do just fine. Not as much flow as I would like, but the action is nice. I have had one of them stop working and a simple power reset gets it back and cranking. I know I am in the minority here.
They also work nicely at keeping the surface "busy" just don't use the venturi....ever.

i would get a wider flow pattern then the kind available from un-modded max-jets. I keep waiting for the koralis wavemakers. Even though my LPS uses on/off wavemakers on their koralis, i went in after a month and guess what they were broken.

You can get better flow with maxijets or hydor koralias and a cheap(coralife) wave timer.

Works quite well for me.
I think I figured it out that there are 12 different patterns the water can come out in between the modded PHs and the wave maker.
