Power strip timer.

Anyone know of a good power strip with timers?
I looked at marinedepot.com and the coralife ones got terrible ratings.

I use a mechanical outdoor timer for my MH tank, it's rated much higher for current than normal ones.

For my softie tank I use 2 little digital $15 deals.

I just bought one of those! NOT coralife but something with a little mechanical thing i think! It has these little buttons and you push down one for every 10 or 15 minutes you want the light on! Are those ok?

The push button ones I used for years, I stopped though because most of mine didn't keep very good time after a while.

I never had problems with them though.

Me too. As far as them being unsafe, they are UL listed (perhaps that wasn't the case years ago). I've been both an electrician and electrical sales rep over the last 25 years and see no reason for not using one as far as safety is concerned. Just don't overload it and be sure to keep it dry!

i really dont think theyd be any more dangerous than a regular powerstrip if it were to get wet. keeping electrical outlets dry around an aquarium is a MUST!!! keep them elevated and out of the way, also make sure wires have a loop or something preventing water from traveling down the wire to the powerstrip. mine are mounted on the doors in my cabinet so that i dont have to worry about small spills as much. also watchout for saltcreep, salt is a natural conductor and could also cause shorts if its all over your powerstrip.

The problem was with the mechanical ones from what I remember.

Oh yes, I have.

I hang all my power strips on the wall now away from the water, and make sure all my cords have drip loops.

You might have received an electric shock, but believe me, you weren't electrocuted. If you had been electrocuted, you would no longer be a resident of the mortal coil we call life.
