Powder Blue Tang
As a newbie (September) I read your forum ALL the time. Don't post much - never have to - seems I get all my questions answered just by reading. Anyway - I have a a 50 gallon bow-front tank with just 50/50 actinic lighting - for now anyway. I rec'd a powder blue tang as a gift and she is my first high priced fish. I have read so many internet sites and information seems to be contradicting as to their care. Any insite on caring for this fish??? Please help - I've only had her for two days and I love her already. I have been giving her green algae on a clip daily and feeding flake, and brine shrimp only once so far. She ate as soon as I put her in the tank and has been eating ever since. Am I not providing her with enough nutrients??? Thanks so much and I love this forum - it's the best!! Patti

Hi Patti!
Sounds like your doing eveything that I do to care for my Powder Blue.
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...cfm?pCatId=366
The link above has some general care stuff from LiveAquaria, they recommend a 100gal tank though... Most sites I have read offer tank sizes ranging from about 80 to 150 gal.
You may want to consider a bigger tank in the future, how big is your PB tang right now?

just watch out for ich it seems tangs are noted for there ability to get stressed out easily and have ich break out. But especially blue hippo tangs they are one of the hardest to keep healthy. They have dietary needs as well as lots of room to swim around. I have heard that a uv sterilizer will help the out break of deseases. but i dont know if have a quarentine tank to put animals in before you add them to your main tank. i have learned the hard way many times. Its worth it to set up a little ten gallon and let fish live in there for a few weeks so you can observe them eat and make sure they dont have anything on them that could infect the main tank because if they do your tang will more than likely be the first to go.

The PB tang is about 4 inches now. The LFS said she would be fine in my tank because of the bow front. Now, I don't know if they just wanted to sell a fish or were telling me the truth because eveything I have read says a 100 gallon tank. So far the LFS has not steered me wrong - I bought my whole set-up from them. Well I guess I will just contunie to say my prayers! She seems to be fine - actually enjoying her new life. Thanks and I'll take anymore info that's out there! Patti
