Hi Reefs Rock,

Good to have you with us!

You can post pics in two different ways:

1) Direct post a single picture from your computer (max size 120k). Use the "Browse" button at the bottom of the Post Reply screen to select the file.

2) Create a link from your website using the URL of the picture itself (not the page URL). Use the IMG button selection above the Post Reply screen and copy and paste the URL of the image.

Please tell us about your tank(s).
Again,
Welcome to TRT.
Dick)

Thanks FishDaddy! I'll give that a whirl. Some posters must not resize to the 120K max, huh?

Kimnrj

You use a photo editor such as Paint Shop Pro. Open your picture in the program and look for "resize" or some other word that will let ou edit the size of the pic.

I figured it out. I like to preview my posts and when I did that the image was dropped for some reason.

Tell you about my tanks. I,m in the process of setting up a 75 reef. Had a disaster awhile ago. House furnace went out while out of town for a few days. House was 50 F and 40 reef was 54 F. Everything was dead except one true Perc. The pair (breeding) had been with me for five years. All the corals, etc, dead. A simple $15 switch had failed to trip. When I discovered the failed switch I tripped it and it's been fine ever since.

I have an extensive background in the hobby (55 Years). I've done a lot, hobbyist, install/maintenence, retail, wholesale (ClarityPlus Dist. for ten years) and soon setting up a coral prop greenhouse in FL.

I recently retired and on Feb 4th I'm flying to FL to buy the piece of property for our home and greenhouse. Hope to move down there within the year if all goes well.

So, right now involvement with the hobby is at the lowest point in my life.

Thanks for the info and this great board.

Hey Reefs Rock,
Great to have you bring that many years of SW experience to the board! I'm sure we have much to learn from you.

Sorry about your tank losses. It must be frustrating for a simple switch to cause so much damage.

Also for Kimnrj:
Resizing the physical dimensions of the image isn't always enough to make a picture fit the 120k limitation. Most photo editing software has an option to save the image in lower resolution. This may be found under an options menu or in most cases, when you select "Save As", choose a new file name, select "Save" again, and you may be prompted to choose Best, Normal, or Low resolution. Sometimes this will be expressed in numerical dpi or in a percentage of the original image.

Using "Save As" allows you to keep the original image and create a new file name for the "Saved As" image for uploading to the web or use in e-mails at the lower resolution. An interesting thing is that most computer screens cannot tell the difference between the original image and one saved at half the dpi resolution!

Some of our members who know much more than I about digital imaging can explain this better but this is what I've learned by floundering around with picture by trial and error.

I have learned to take photographs with my digital at the highest resolution for the best picture but then to reduce the resolution of a copy to send to family or friends by email or post on the net. The file transfer is much faster with no loss of image quality to the viewer. An internet pro friend of mine once told me that 72dpi was the maximum that a computer screen could "see" when viewing an internet image. Many who don't realize this load very large resolution images onto their website which makes the pages load very slowly for us folks still handicapped by dial-up modems.
