Post your Rhodactis photos
I just picked up this purple Tonga Rhodactis from the LFS yesterday. The color is a little more purple than in this photo, which looks blue to me. I think it's beautiful and had to share. I would like to find one of the true blue Tonga Rhodactis as pictured on p.207 of Borneman's Aquarium Corals.

Nice find. It just depends on the light that they are under, the sme with most corals. Will you be collecting the greens as well??

Wanareef,
I honestly think the musrooms are fast becoming my favorite corals, particularly ricordia, rhodactis, etc. I don't have many of the rhodactis, but have quite a few ricordias - they are so colorful!

Very nice Melissa. I saw that and was going to get it for my nano but I guess you beat me to it. I think I know where there's another one.

Hi Melissa,
Congratulations on your beautiful Rhodactis!!!
Here's a couple of shots of mine. In the first pic, I caught one of them spewing it's mesenterial filaments. About a half hour later, when went back to look, they were all back inside the Rhodactis again.

these are my rhodacits...they started as one, but a piece tore off (still attached to the little piece of rock they came on). i glued it back down and then i had two. now there are three. in the background are some discosoma. basically, i had a large, gently sloping slab of LR on the bottom of my tank and i decided to get a variety of mushrooms to attach....eventually they should cover the entire rock and maybe crossbreed (the discosoma that is)
anyway, the rhodactis are green under the actinics and greenish brown when all the lights are on

Tankgirl2,
Beautiful colony you have going there. Did you propogate yourself or...? I'd like to propogate mine, but not sure how or if I want to risk it. Nice shot of the "spewing". How can you tell the filaments were back in the mouth? Also, is there a particular time of day/night when this would happen? What are the signs? (sorry for all the questions)
Rick, sorry about that! I can definitely hook you up when and if I can get it to split or I learn how to propogate. I owe ya, anyway....that green cap looks particularly nice right now - colored up a lot and looks like a purple rim!

Here's a better one of my purple. C'mon! I know more people out there have rhodactis shrooms! Let's see 'em!

price is pretty comporable to any of the regular mushrooms in my experience; $10-15 a head generally. as far as care, they are pretty much the same as discosoma...low light is fine, dont need fed

Hi Melissa, Thanks!! There were about half a doz. when I got them. They propagated themselves. I've read that you can propagate them just like any other shroom, by making a cut in the disk, but haven't tried that myself.
On the spewing, am not sure what caused it, could have been a fish that pecked at it, or maybe just a hermit that crawled across it? When I went back a half hour later, the filaments were all back inside the mouth, again. I'm not certain but believe it's a defense mechanism when something bothers it. Don't think it's for feeding, but it might be.

It depends on the color of them. This one was more expensive, but it has a very nice color compared to some other purples I've seen for sale for less.
