popping sound ....

Sometimes I can hear popping sound comming from my tank, but haven't never really figured out what that can be, but so far I have lost my Yellow Tang and Yellow Goby, can that be some kind of crab ? if so how can I get him out if I have no idea where is hiding and there is just too much of rocks to pull out .... ?

Popping sounds are known to come from Pistol Shrimp and..... Mantis's....
After the fish died did they go missing then they were never seen again?
Or did you see their dead bodies?
Or what happened?

I have found that popping can come from just about any type of crab and the forementioned postol shrimp and mantis shrimp. You could definatly have a pest. I would start with a bottle trap.

Take a plastic bottle. Remove the cap. Cut the top and invert it and place it back on the bottle body. Place some food in the bottle. Probably something meaty would be best for your situation. Leave it in the tank for a while and take it out when you catch your bogey.

Typically anything that finds its way in the bottle is not able to get out so you don't really need to watch too closely.

Hope that helps and works.

That does sound like a predator... probably a shrimp as pointed out. I'd try to trap something as well. Good luck!

Have you tried sneaking up on and checking out the tank at night with a flashlight? This is how I usually seem to find any pests that are in my tank. I found a huge hitchhiker crab this way.

Try to use a red light filter when looking into your fish tank. Many hitchhikers only come out at night and are also light sensitive. So once you shine your light in, it might run away. But like everyone else said... try to capture it and post a picture

I usually look at the tank at night since I work nights and come home at 3:00 am but I haven't seen anything that shouldn't be in my tank, or anything extra, no crabs or shrimps, ... I just have couple hermit crabs, couple emeralds, one coral banded shrimp, and few fish .... that's about it. .... some snails tooo....
