Polyp Extention

Good Morning. I am SPS to not have polyp extension. I can take a piece from the LFS that looks like it needs a hair cut put it in my tank and I will never see any extension.
Tank specs
90 gallon
2 250 14k MH 2 96 watt 50/50 Pcs
4 Maxi jet 1200 on a Red Sea timer
Ph 8.5
Ca 430
Mg 1230
Kh 12.5
No3 less than 5
Any thoughts would be cool

Try lowering your KH down till your pH reads 8.2... Maybe at 9DKH.

Are you acclimating them to the light?

The last pieces I purchased came from a store that is running 400 watt radium bulbs. How do I lower my KH? Thanks for the help

PE is not a sign of SPS health from everything I've read. Obviously the lack of polyps could be considered um... Death, but as long as they are coming out a little is a sign of life and the show of new/healthy tissue and growth is the true measure of health.

Also the flow could be a little less than needed, but far too concentrated if any of the sps is in line with the flow from the MJs. You want wide, gentle and extreme flow, not narrow, concentrated and pulsating. The polyps will retract if they are getting blasted by regular MJs.

I am doing weekly water changes. As of now I think I am not depleting anything enough to require supplements. I will look at water flow. I have the kits to increase the flow but was told it would be to much for a 90

i dont think you can have too much flow for an sps tank as long as the flow is not directly on the corals

I've seen a lot of sps tanks around here, in local clubs, that just blast their sps w/ direct but wide PH flow. Would they really be getting better growth rates if they moved them to a more indirect flow area?

Your salt has to much bicarbonate in it. I guess I wouldn't worry about it. When your tank begins to consume it you will be glad it is there.

I would do the mod on one power head and see if it helps. I have a 40 gallon with over 12000GPH going in it. I have great polyp extention.
