Polished Glass Aquariums
Does anyone know of aquarium MFGs that make polished glass reef ready aquariums?

I think I have a link at home for a manufacturer. If I do, then I'll add a reply to this post. Just an informational. If you get glass, make sure they don't tint it green like Oceanic did for mine. I'm not sure why it's necessary, but it seems to affect light and color.

Plat if you are refering to glass tanks that use Starphire or Omniglass (bith dead clear glass with no green hue ) I dont think thier is a major manufacturer that builds them. You will have to find a custom builder. The only guy I know that does that is Mitch at Inter american pet supply out of Canada. Would also do a search on starphire and the aove mentioned builder tomake sure on how is reputation is doing.

I research Inter American ( the company that Mitch works for) The prices looked great, and would probably go with them, but then I read nothing but horror stories about that guy and his company, most every one was unhappy with attitude, quality, and delivery time! I do not have time to play gmes with clowns like that - Im going to stay clear of them. Has anyone ever been happy dealing with Inter American? perhaps I just found a bad link or two?

I had heard a couple of rumblings to, thats why I suggested the search. As per happy customers I have put 2 folks through and they were very happy and I know thier were a couple on reefland (ninong and an other) that had good things to say. From what I heard you have to make sure that you have included all the things you want done on the tank (as in polished corners, overflows and so on) But again my friend one never knows when it comes to this who's telling you the story and who is not.
It might be worth a call to him and make a gut call on it from thier.
take care

Another thing to keep in mind if you're having it built. Plan on how much flow you're going to have through the sump and have them make the spillover on the overflow lower. It will handle large pumps that way.

There is an LFS in Marietta that has an Oceanic with Starfire glass. Up until the time I saw it I was unaware that Oceanic made a tank like that.

When you look through the edge of a piece of standard plate glass, (what most glass tanks are made from), you'll see that is has a darker green/blue color from the additives and impurites. It is these 'impurities' that make it strong. Looking through that glass seems clear but is actually tinted green. You can see this in car windows, regular glass fishtanks, thick window glass etc.
The only significant disadvantage of starphire is that it is somewhat more expensive, and that it is not quite as strong. But it does look good.
You cant 'order' the glass to be tinted green. ALL glass comes that way. Your lighting, tank depth, width etc affects the amount of green that you see.
