Question

plumbing question for gen x pcx-40

I just bought my new pump for the cls.. the gen x pcx-40. I bought the plumbing and was curious of what you guys thought. It is set up for two 3/4'' coming from the pump (one in and one out). i made the pumps intake go to 1'' and had the other part "t" off to two 3/4'' locline over the back. I was gonna drill lots of holes in a longer piece of 1'' pvc for the intake like they do with a spraybar. do you think this is big enough for this size pump.. of do i need a 1.5''? i would like to make sure since i am ordering black pvc online. thanks for any help... Bob

the pump is not big enough for that. it is big enough to run just a spraybar, but not anything else. spraybars require a huge amount of water. i do not recommend a spraybar on a pump that does less than 1000gph. this is for a spraybar beteen 3-4' in length.

no i dont want to run a spray bar.. i want to drill a pipe like a spraybar for the part that sucks water into the pump.. so it istn just like a 990 degree elbow.. i figure it would be less suction for smaller fish if it has lots of holes.. does this make sense? im starting to confuse myself..lol

that is a great idea. the more surface area you can add to the inlet the less dangerous it will be for the critters.

where are you ordering from? I can't find black PVC anywhere.

(I was actually told that if it's black, it's not TRUE PVC...not sure what that means, but...)

i think it is a great idea..i used 3/4" on my other tank and the length was about 12" or so and It had alot of suction with a mag950 if you plan to go a bit longer.. with plenty of drilled holes i think you would be fine..
you dont want To little suction..then you will never move any debris around..
