Plumbing a Nano inline with another tank?

A few months ago someone posted a link (I think from RC) which was a guy that made a small display tank for his clams that was plumbed into a larger tank. They both shared the same water but he had placed the tanks on different walls. Does anyone remember that link? I have tried searching for it and cannot find it.

The reason I want to see it is that I am thinking of doing something similar accept I will try my hand at a few SPS with it (much cheaper to get a small penant MH fixture than to try to light up a much larger tank with MH).

Anyone remember the link?

only thing i would think about is with sps u should watch out if theres any leather corals in the other tank, they can be toxic. also sps generally prefer low-nutrient water, so take that into consideration also. other than that i dont see why it would be a problem. i forget who it was but someone on here had quite a few tanks plumbed into the same sump.

yea, people do it, but its not reccomended because the shedding can be toxic to sps corals. just cuz people do it doesnt always mean its a good thing to do!

Yes it can be done but precautions need to be taken just in case, other wise alot of money can sluff off. Carbon in the sump is the first thing that comes to mind.
The plumbing would be very simple, make sure the sump can handle the combined flow of both tanks and have a seperate return pump for each tank. I would also be sure to have a batch of water ready to go in the event of a problem. Just because you see something in a picture doesnt mean it was a breeze to do. A picture doestnt speek to the problems that may or may not have been encountered along the way or since said pic. Its common knowledge that several types of coral compete and attack each other both physically and chemically. I would suggest much research and talking to people who actually do/have done it before you put alot of money and coral on the line. I have seen threads about the associated problems of mixed types of coral.
Now with that said, the proper steps of precaution and very good filtration and system design would make the issue much more of a non-issue. It is done frequently. Just dont do something because of a picture.
