DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH....

Thanks for the quick reply...

I've only seen those 2 and a few others... all on small pieces of rock, so ill take those out, and deal with them.

I was crossing my fingers, hoping for something that wouldn't cause problems.

Ohhh well... here are some progress pics so far on the 55 gal.

First one, is after the sand and water was added. The sand and water both came from a friends 75gal reef tank he was taking down.

The second one, was when the rock, also from the 75gal, was added. Alot of it was stirred up, but all settled fast or was filtered out. Yes I am using 2 hang on filters, they had filter pads to help take the stuff out.

The third one, was taken the other day. I got my little PC light from my 30 on there just to light up the tank for now. MHs or VHOs soon to come. This was after I got all my plumbing and sump/refugium up and running. Next to be added is a DIY skimmer and DIY canopy with lights.

Easiest way to nuke 'em is with Joe's Juice. Cheaper ways are to mix up a slurry of Kalkwasser or pickling lime with freshwater and squirt a pile on top of the aptasia to smother it. I use a large bore veterinary syringe to squirt it. Note that the Kalkwasser slurry is hard to remove from kitchen utensils, so you might want to use disposable or junk utensils to stir and mix.

I got some kalkwasser, so i think ill go that method. Is there a certain amount mix??

I went ahead and removed 2 tiny rocks that had them on there... but theres still a few here and there on large unmovable rocks.

an even easier method if you only have a few is to use a syringe to squirt pure lemon juce on them. I havn't had a single one since i started this. Nothing like a nice acid bath to nuke the little monsters. No PH issues from this either.

You mainly just want the consistency to be so that you can squirt it out something like stiff toothpaste. With a few tries, you'll figure it out. Once you get a white blob to cover the aptasia, the white blob will stay there, so you can just prod it or scrape it to get it to break it up once you feel it has done its job.

If it drops on other corals while you're using it, brush it away so that it won't irritate them.

I found that I can fill a syringe, use whatever is necessary, then store the syringe submerged in a cup of water. As long as it stays wet, it doesn't glom up the syringe too badly.

you could also look into a peppermint shrimp. Mine wiped out my aptasia in a few days. I only had a few of them as well, so if you have room in the tank for a new inhabitant, it could be the way to go.

I was planning on trying the lemon juice method and/or kalkwasser to get rid of them, and try to get what i can, but i know there are a few i wont be able to get too, so right now I am waiting for the water in the bay here to warm up so I can go collect some peppermint shrimp. I can usually get 20-50 a night, and i keep a few, and send the others to people who need them. Since I am having this apistia problem now, I will be heading out tonight to see if they have started to come out.

I have been trying the lemon juice route with no luck. They just shrivel up for a week or so and one day will be big as before. Peppermint shrimp are the way to go IMO.

Gulf Shrimp, and peppermint shrimp are not the same I'm pretty sure or else no one in Texas would get the latter
