Pics...blue ribbon eel

With the help of whiskey and Geoff I finally got my blue ribbon eel eating. I know what you are going to say before I even post this BUT, I rescued him from the LFS. They had him for about 10 days and he wasnt eating at all. I took him home and on the 3 day, he eat. I tried everything brine, squid with garlic, mysid, rods reef, live white shrimp. But what finally gto to eat was live rosies. I am not sure how much to feed him yet but I figured he hadn't eaten in 13 days I will give him his fill and he ate 5 rosie on Sun. and 7 on Mon. I will cut him back now. Here are some pics and I will try to get one of him eating today. The secret is they dont eat in the open they like tight spaces and are quit slow at getting the fish.

that is a beautiful eel...keep in mind..he grew up eating live fish..it may take some training to get him to eat frozen foods. if he will at all.

I agree. BRE are very very very hard to keep in captivity.

the hardest part about keeping these is getting them to eat. once you do that you are golden. i used to know the sequence of colour for these, but can not remember now. i think the white once are the youngest. black and blue denote sex. argh, now i am going to have to look it up to be sure.

you might want to try and feed the rosies some good SW fish food to gut load them before feeding them to the eel. FW fish do not have as good of a nutritional value as SW fish.

Try silversides. I keep two that eat mostly silversides from a feeding tong. It is not unusual for them to go off feeding for 10-12 days. PM me if you need more information about their care. I hope you have a tight fitting lid!
