Question

Pickling Lime

Hello,
I have a couple questions on makeup water. I've built an auto topoff system using a 5 gallon igloo water container. Found some cool o-ringed pvc fittings that work with flex vinyl hose and use a Kent float valve - works great. If all I wanted to add was RO water it would be the perfect system, but I want to start dosing kalk. Here's the questions:

- Where on earth can one find pickling lime. Every grocer I've been to (central coast California) has never heard of it. Reminds me of the time I ordered grits in Santa Maria. Waitress had no glue what a grit was

- Will the air in venting into my reservior be enough to significantly effect the kalk solution? The vent is a safety - I ran it down to about 1" above the sump fill line as a safety/backup to the kent valve.

Thanks,
Jeeper

Hi Jeepreefer!

Nice to know there is another reefer on the central coast, we're in Creston, near Atascadero. No grits here either.

I read on another board that Mrs. Wages pickling lime is currently out of stock. www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34162&highlight=Mrs+Wages

I've gotten next day UPS delivery from marinedepot.com, you might try them.
