Is it soft or hard, and does it change shape or position with the time of day, or does it stay as it is in the photograph? Does it have tentacles? Do polyps extend/epand from the tissue? Any movement from that spot or is it sessile? Any observable behavior at all?

Please keep in mind that ID's from photos in notoriously difficult, even with perfect pix and good descriptions, as many corals may develop particular shapes and characteristics based on the conditions of the tank, and may mimic other similar corals.

Better, sharper pix for more details would be handy as well.

Waiting for yer input!

If it is hard like rock, then it is prlly some spp of coralline algae. Some spp will build large mounds and pillars over time, it is a good thing.

Best way to make sure is break off a piece of it and overnight it to me in about a pint of water...

I believe it also looks like the type of red bubble algae that I have been fighting in my tank for the last month+. If it is it isn't a good thing and I don't have a magic solution for you as of yet otherwise i wouldn't still be fighting it.

take the rock out of the tank and take them off and then rinse the rock good. this is what I do and my tank has never been more then 3 to 5 bubbles at a time.
