I agree ro/di is better than distilled water. You don't really know how distilled the water actually is. But a good ro/di set up will give you unbelievable clean water. How to lower it.???? Waterchanges using ro/di water and maybe adding phosban to your system/filter for a while

if there is nothing in the tank but LR then just do a 100% water change. i have done one not to long ago with a full tank of SPS corals. as long as the water parameters are as close to the old water you will be fine. the biggest being S.G. and temp.

Tap water? No way... Drain and refill with RO/DI as soon as practical. The longer the icky tap water is in there, the more it will pollute the LR. The contaminants will seep out of the LR over time, so it will be some time before you have high water quality. The sooner the better.

Sink connection is possible. You can connect them to pretty much any water source. You need high pressure and a way to drain off the waste water. Some come with small pressurized holding containers. Others, you just run the output line to your container of your choosing. If you want to get fancy, you can rig an auto-shutoff system to a float switch, etc.
