PhosGuard and GSP (Re: Aluminum Oxide)

Does anyone know if PhosGuard is Aluminum Oxide? In another thread (http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=38734) tdwyatt suggests that high levels of aluminum oxide can cause GSP some problems. I have been using PhosGuard continuously for a few months and my GSP polyps have not be extending as they should. The purple base is still growing, but the polyps are short. Thanks

It is my understanding that it is aluminum oxide. Here is a link with some info on aluminum and if you look 2/3 down it talks about phosguard specifically.

Thanks a lot. If this could be a quick fix to my GSP problem that would be great. Kinda makes phosGuard a no-no for reef aquaria.

I took out the phosguard. we'll see in a month how things are doing.

I assume carbon will take the aluminium out of the water.

When I run phosgard ot phosban my LPS corals do not open up. Once I stop and do a water chnage they resume. I am in between a rock and a hrd place here because I need to run some phosphate removal material due to my hair algae problem but I dont want to kill the corals.
