phosban reactor help
ok so I bought a new reactor - hooked it all up to an mj 400 and the media is not tumbling.
so this leads me to belive I have done something wrong...
So I tried hooking it up to a 1200 in case there just wasn't enough flow- yeah still no tumbling...
anybody care to guess what I did wrong?

a mj400 should be fine. do you have the input hose from the 400 hooked to the center connection? Do you have the valve open? The media should look like it's just starting to boil on the surface when it's working correctly.

I've always thought you didn't want the media tumbling cuz the granules will grind down.

not so much tumbling, but just starting to "boil". That's what phosban recomends. I run GFO from two part solution, it's much cheaper and the same thing-

yup, your hoses are backwards, put the hose coming from the maxijet onto the center elbow of the reactor. water will flow down thru the tube and come up and be forced out the other elbow

Thanks for posting that as I am getting ready to set mine up and now understand how it needs to be done before starting.

Remember the media should tumble only very slightly,.. if the media tumbles too much it can grind the media up and releice a whole bunch of iron into your tank.
Allot of people are now reccomending that it not tumble at all,.. certinally it should tumble very, very little if at all.

Thanks for the helpful replies.
So, basically by design of the reactor if water is coming out of the return hose then it has gone through the media to get there and even though it may not tumble it is still making contact with the water and working.
Do I have that right? I just want to make sure I don't mess anything else up with my system.
