phos-reactor help
I have been battling a bit of a cyano problem lately. I decided to hook up my phos reactor, which I havent used in quite a while. I am using 150g of Kent marine Power-phos. I have it hooked up to the back of the tank using a Mini Jet 404 rated 20-106. I have it on the 2nd to lowest setting. If I increase it, a small amount of the black granules move to the top and some actually make it through the second sponge and into the water. Does this look about right. The surface of the media bubbles just a bit. How long do I keep this going. All my parameters are great, no other problems, even my pipe that was covered in spots with cyano is improving. Thanks to the turkey baster. 125G BB

In my experince with cyano. It is not a issue of having PO4. I have always increased my flow and some manual removal during water changes and it went away.
have you ever tested for PO4?

I thinkI have plenty of flow. I have 2 maxi 12 mods, 2 Koralia 3, and my corner outtakes. This seemed to have started when I changed my bulbs in Dec. Maybe a coincidence. What is a test for PO4?

Duh, I guess you mean phosphate? Yes I have tested and its zero,, but I was thinking its zero because the cyano is feeding off of it..............???

your po4 is showing up as zero because it is all stored up in the cyano, i have had this issue, mine went away when i added some flow and manually removed it.

I would say that the phos reactor can do nothing but help. If nothing else use it as a preventitive measure. I have one on order right now and will be installing it soon. So I am following this thread with interest

I agree... no matter how much flow i had and manual removal... i could not get rid of the cyano on my sand bed... started running phosphate absorbent.. and the issue is resolving itself

you want the media softly tumbling....not boiling. and whenever you first add media you want to perform a water change through the cansiter. I dont know how big your tank is but when i used to use the stuff I would always run 10-15 gallons through the reactor and out in an effoprt to get rid of all of the dust. I would rinse before hand as well ignoring the silly directions on not rinsing.

Thanks for the help. I guess I am running it properly as it is a soft tumble through the media with the power head on the second to lowest setting. I have had it running for a couple of days now. I did rinse thoroughly before turning on the reactor. Hopefully this will help. I'm getting tired of trying to catch the cyano with my net, after blasting it with the turkey baster.
