Phase out Biowheel

Hi all:

I finally did it! I ordered the AquaC Remora Pro (Factory second with minor blemish at a great discount as suggested by Kevin 1000). I am planning on adding more LR to bring total to 50 lbs in my 46 gallon tank. My question is, how do I phase out the emperor 280 with biowheel? Should I take off the entire filter, or just take out the biowheel?

I think you should be fine removing the whole thing. Compared to the LR already in your tank, the bio wheel provides little biofiltation.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to go ahead and remove the emperor. Sometimes its hard to let go of the old way of doing things.

How much rock do you have now? and how much of a load.If you only have a little amount of rock and a large load,I would do the wheel 1st then a sleave at a time unless there is only 1 sleave then get rid of the rest at 2nd step.

I have 3 fish and 20 lbs rock. My plan is to buy more lr, cure and bring to 50 lbs in the tank before I remove the biowheel. I am not sure what you mean by sleaves.
