Question

PH Calibration

Hi Gang,

I was just reading how to set up my calcium reactor. It reccomends using a digital ph tester. I bought one quite awile ago and never used it because we were told you have to have calibration fluid.

Now I need to use it and wont be able to get to a LFS for another week, never noticed it on the shelf there either. But never looked, too busy looking at corals

Anyway, is there a solution I can make at home that has a known ph? What about Sea Chem Marine Buffer 8.3?

Thanks, Chris

20 mule team borax is a combination of a weak acid and a weak base that buffer to a testable standard, and do not rely heavily on precise measurements to make a buffered standard that is capable of calibrating your pH meter for home use, see Craig Bingman's article "20 mule Team Borax saves the day (again)" , and in addition, you can learn how to make GACK...
