I had both pepermints and a red Goni together for a year with no problems. Still have the Goni, but lost the shrimp when I got a Flame Hawk.

You are very fortunate that the shrimps are cleaning the house for the Gonipora, that is if the shrimp are indeed Lysmata wurdurmanii. There are many shrimps that resemble pepps, in particular, the Camel Shrimp (Rhynocinetes durbinensis). They have much whiter white stripes and redder red stripes, usually with a noticable hump on the rostrum. Unfortunately these shrimp include many polyped corals in their diet along with whatever other materials they can scavenge, so make sure that you have L. wurdermanii if it appears that they are actually consuming the polyps themselves.
