Peppermint Shrimp Question
Hey all so I put some peppermint shrimp into my tank yesterday and I have not seem them since I put them in! they are both are about one inch big, I'm just curious if this is normal. They have about 135 pounds of live rock to explore some maybe that's why I have not seen them.

I put 2 in my tank 3 months ago.....last night I saw one of them for the first time in 6 weeks. I honestly thought they died....but every now and again the just pop up to say hello.
I think they are nocturnal. If you get a flash light with a red filter you can see your night time critters. I bet you will see them out and about every night when the lights go out.

very normal. they dissapear for weeks on end. i usually look for molts to see if they are still alive, and not the actual shrimp.

Your best bet may to check out your tank at night with a flashlight. I hardly ever saw mine but slowly the few aptasia I had vanished.

They always seem to be hanging upside down behind the rock where you can't ever see them.

glad they are still around...I had 3 in my other tank and they were out constantly... which I thought was weird because I had always heard I would not see them, all are different I guess.

Peppermint shrimp
I just put two peppermint shrimp in my tank, which is FULL of aptasia. Within 10 minutes, both of them of lying on the bottom of the tank. They lay there with the occasional twitch in the beginning but after a while they stopped moving completely. They looked pretty dead to me. When I checked again about 3 hours later, they had disappeared. Is this something they do? Play dead? Or did they get eaten. I do have a six line wrasse as well as a miniature lobster which I would like to get rid of but can never see to catch.

This is normal behavior for these shrimp for the reason posted.
You may also see what appears to be a dead shrimp floating around in the tank within the next two to four weeks: do not despair, it is probably a molt. If shrimp have not recently molted, the change in environment due to the move usually will trigger a molting. Average salinity change has been speculated to be one of the primary reasons for this, especially if going from a higher salinity environment to a lower salinity environment, but it is probably not the only possible reason nor set of circumstances for this phenomenon.

and how did you acclimatize these shrimp? They usually require long drip acclimatization or they will usually die in the transition, especially if going from a low salinity environment (like most LFS) to a normo- or hypersaline environment (like most home reef systems).

Peppermint shrimp
My Fish Guy who maintains my tank (water change every 2 - 3 weeks, etc as I am still new at this) suggested the peppermint shrimp as a solution to my aiptasia problem. He brought them over and basically just threw them in. I guess that is not a good idea. I'll get my flashlight out tonight and check on them.

Welcome to TRT Auntie Katch!
I am sorry, but that was definitely not the way to do it. If I was in your shoes I would have expected him to know what he was doing as well. He should know how to drip acclimate, so I would call him and ask him about it. If he says he doesn't know about it then you can have him come out to this forum and ask about it and we will be glad to fill him in on all of the details.
If you would like the details yourself just let us know and any of us will be glad to help you.
Good luck with your tank.

I have a cleaner and a Fire shrimp and I really havent seen them in the last 4 days since I bought them. Not too sure on the peppermints but hiding seems to be a trait of these shrimp... Kinda weak. I wanted something a little more active. I have my fire come out when i put my hand in the water. Is there anything I should be feeding them?? (hand feeding??) I'm feeding frozen Mysis right now
