Question

Peppermint Shrimp

I read the addition of peppermint shrimp to the tank, may rid the waters of aptasia. Is there a possibility of damage to the wanted corals?

There is a possibility. People have had trouble with them picking at polyps or even LPS corals and they will steal food from LPS corals. From personal experience though, I had no trouble at all with mine, they spawned quite often releasing free coral food and cleaned up my aiptasia problem in short order. Mine were quite shy, I only saw them at night or feeding time.

I have had peppermint shrimp that worked, now all I have are lazy ones. I rarely see them and they don't touch anything.

The best way to eradicate aptasia is to take a syringe and needle with boiling water spiked with kalk and inject them. They die quickly.

I had aptasia at one point so I got 3 peppermint shrimp. They spend a lot of time hiding, but after about 2 weeks I noticed the aptasia were gone. I think I may have one left now, but rarely see it

We have had pepperment before, I think that they help with small aptasia, but I have also seen them munching on small feather dusters. Some are great and some are very lasy.
