Pegging my rockwork

Is it better to use ties or airline tubing, or both

I'm setting up a 65g soon though i'd try it.

Green plastic garden stakes that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot. Stronger than the airline tubing and solid so nothing gets inside. Zip ties also work well but only the black ones are uv resistant. Over time the clear ones become brittle and break due to uv exposure.

I've always just used hard airline tubing with success, but anything of similar structural value should work fine.

Basile, you should check out crvz's setup with the fiberglass reflector rods. They make wicked rock columns.

That's surely a good choice for larger structures, but I think we're talking about pegging frags with little pieces of rock rubble.

Yes my thank will be 65 G. I 'll use that technique for 2 reasons, i'm gutsy enough now and know enough about corals to attemp this, second, i have a coast to coast overflow but in side the tank. So i'll camouflage it with a vertical wall kinda structure. with of course some twisting elbow reaching forward and macroalgae scaping.

See what this guy pegged.

Great work and i want to show you this guy creation, hope he don't mind; very inspirering to look at.

Here he uses black zip ties

Putty as well to solidify his work

More ties on top of his pegging

Hope you enjoyed this exemple, its Japanese influence don't you think?

I'm supposed to pick up a couple of 6 foot acrylic rods this week, one square, one round. Then I can pick up some fresh sand and hopefully do a rock lift/ rock pegging, SB replacement day. THe sand bed is not that old but if I am going to all the trouble to pull it all out then why not.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

We used the driveway reflectors to do something similar on my sons tank - we just cut them down to peg them more just stack them.

HTH.

sohal, a huge and grumpy fish that needs a ton of space, but can make a real great feature of the tank.
